JOHN CATO - PRINCIPAL DENTIST

BDS (Liverpool), MFDS RCS (Edinburgh), MSc Dental Implants (Edge Hill University) BSc Biology (University of Leeds).
John Cato is the principal dentist and owner of Next Wave Dental. Originally from Liverpool, he moved to North Devon in 2017 with his wife Sophie and their two children. He founded Next Wave Dental to bring a fresh approach to dentistry in the region, with a focus on cutting-edge technology and patient-centered care.
John holds a BSc in Biology from the University of Leeds (2004) and graduated from Liverpool Dental School in 2012. He has a background in oral surgery and was accepted into the Royal College of Surgeons in 2013. In 2017, he completed a Master’s in Dental Implantology.
John specialises in dental implants and aesthetic tooth replacement. He regularly attends CPD courses on advanced techniques, including implant restorations and bone grafting. In his free time, he enjoys outdoor activities and socialising with friends.
COLIN POCOCK - ASSOCIATE DENTIST
We are relocating from a very happy 24 years in Birmingham to the beautiful North Devon Coast! In fact this is a bit of homecoming for me; as I was born in Barnstaple and spent my early years in Bradworthy. And then in Launceston (Lanson).
I studied Dentistry at Sheffield University and graduated in 1998.
For the last 18 years I was one of the Principal Dentists at a Boutique Dental Practice in Birmingham’s Convention Quarter called The Dentist at Liberty Place.
I’m a keen Gardener, lapsed Cyclist and volunteer at my local Church.
We are looking forward to making new friends, getting back on the bike and learning to surf.
But most of all helping a whole new group of people get the smile they have always wanted. My current patients (most of whom have been with me for 24 years) tell me that they love my approach to dentistry, really gentle and caring explanation and treatment. To help you and your family make the right choice and with you every step of the way. I especially love minimally invasive procedures to help you keep your teeth for longer. And Aligning, Whitening and Bonding; helping to make them look their best!
SABINA CAMBER - DENTAL HYGIENIST

Sabina started working in dentistry in 1986 as a dental surgery assistant and knew then it was the right career for her. In 1993 Sabina qualified from The Eastman Dental Hospital as a Dental Hygienist. Sabina is a qualified Mental Health First Aider, trained in smoking cessation, and has a keen interest in how our diet, nutrition, and physical activity impact our wellness.
Sabina is an active member of The British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy where she sits on the council and represents all members from the Southwest Peninsula region alongside organising professional study days for their members.
Throughout her career, Sabina's knowledge, understanding, and skills have grown around the importance of treating the whole person not just the mouth, adopting an evidence-based approach linking all research to the effects that oral diseases play in general ill health and vice versa. Collaborating with patients, treating them as individuals, so they understand what is happening in their own mouth – along with the vital role they play every day using effective plaque disruption techniques to get and keep their mouth free from disease.
Looking at the impact lifestyle factors can have on oral health -for example, smoking and vaping, frequency of sugars and refined carbohydrates, nutrition, and stress along with the impact medications, fluctuation in hormones and a highlighting how conditions such as diabetes can have an impact. The patient’s role in their oral health is vital, they make the difference towards positive treatment outcomes.
Sabina follows and works within the latest clinical guidance from The European Federation of Periodontology and The British Society of Periodontology
SOPHIE CATO - FACIAL AESTHETICS
Sophie is a highly skilled and passionate Facial Aesthetics practitioner specialising in enhancing natural beauty through non-invasive cosmetic treatments.
Sophie graduated as a pharmacist in 2009 with a masters degree and since then has undertaken a postgraduate clinical diploma and independent prescribing qualification. Sophie has worked as a pharmacist for the NHS in both GP practices and in hospitals for the last 15 years.
Sophie has developed her skills in facial aesthetics undertaking a number of training courses for healthcare professionals, including antiwrinkle treatments, dermal fillers, polynucleotide injections, skin boosters and micro needling.
Sophie is a member of ACE (aesthetic complication experts) and APGUK (aesthetic pharmacists group UK) and is committed to safe and informed practice.
Outside of her work, Sophie enjoys spending time with her family and enjoying the beautiful outdoors that North Devon has to offer.
NATALIE DREW - PRACTICE MANAGER
Natalie has worked in both patient and client-facing roles for over 15 years and within the marketing industry for over 10 years. Gaining qualifications in Business and Administration as well as Marketing during this time. Natalie joined the Next Wave Dental team when the doors opened in October 2024.
Natalie is dedicated to ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of Next Wave Dental overseeing all aspects of daily operations. Natalie is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care and creating a welcoming environment for both patients and team members.

Outside of work, Natalie loves spending time with her family and friends and reading a good book.
OLIVIA DOWN - HEAD NURSE
Olivia started nursing in 2017 and joined Next Wave Dental when the doors opened in October 2024. Olivia is head dental nurse where she leads a dedicated team in delivering exceptional care to every patient.
Olivia has a compassionate approach and great attention to detail, ensuring every patient feels relaxed and well-cared for from start to finish. Olivia has a keen interest in oral surgery, which she has had a lot of experience in her previous roles.
Outside of work Olivia enjoys spending most of her time with her cocker spaniel, Chance.
HELEN WILLS - DENTAL NURSE
Helen has been a registered dental nurse for over 10 years and is also a qualified Orthodontic Therapist. Joining the Next Wave team from its inception in 2024, Helen is passionate about providing exceptional care to patients and supporting the dental team in delivering high-quality treatments.
Helen has a keen interest in Orthodontics, supporting our dentists with our Invisalign cases and when she isn’t at Next Wave Dental she also works as an Ortho-therapist at another local practice.
Outside of work Helen enjoys spending most of her time with her young family.
CLEO BABB - TRAINEE DENTAL NURSE
Cleo started training as a dental nurse in 2023 and will soon be completing her dental nurse qualification in early 2025. Cleo has worked in a dental environment for the past 2.5 years initially as a receptionist before then deciding to train as a nurse.
Cleo is committed to providing high-quality care and support to both patients and the dental team and has a keen interest in restorative dentistry.
Outside of work Cleo is a keen runner and loves to spend time with her friends and family.
MICHELLE CURTIS - TRAINEE DENTAL NURSE & RECEPTIONIST
Michelle joined the team in December 2024 working on both our front reception desk and in surgery as a trainee dental nurse having previously worked in Pharmacy for the last 10 years.
With a strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills, Michelle creates a welcoming atmosphere for all patients, making their dental visits as smooth and stress-free as possible.
Outside of work Michelle enjoys spending times with her friends and family.
SYDNEY MARTINELLI - RECEPTIONIST
Sydney has worked in Dentistry for nearly 5 years and still loves it as much as her first day.
Sydney is passionate about exceptional customer service and adores greeting all of our patients and making them feel at ease. Whether it’s scheduling your next appointment or helping with questions Sydney is here to ensure every patients visit runs smoothly from start to finish.
When Sydney isn’t working you will find her at the beach with her two dogs, Marley and Ben, or spending time with her friends and family.
